Apple has a couple of demo units of the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display outside of the keynote hall at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Check out the gallery below for the shots. Full specs and details here.

It's their first IPS laptop display. I would think that getting a cheap panel at this res would take priority over the finer points of colour range and accuracy though.Spivonious - Monday, June 11, 2012 - link
The reason why Windows PCs don't have high DPI screens is because app support for it is horrible. Windows has supported it very well since XP, but the devs don't handle it.Are OS X apps going to be any better?

It's easy to scale when you just have four pixels (two horizontal two vertical) for every one in the last one. All it has to do is double every pixel dimension to scale old apps.tipoo - Monday, June 11, 2012 - link
Looks like some good innovations in there with the asymmetrical fan and the slots for cooling on three edges (the latter isn't new, but new to Apple at least, not sure about the first). I guess iFixit answered that"This fan has been mentioned in almost all press on the MacBook Pro with Retina display. For $2200 of machine, a frequency dispersed fan doesn't seem reasonable to be a strong selling point; this sounds like a testament to Apple's marketing department."

It's hard to tell if the fan is running, even when playing a game. Yet it runs cool enough to stay on my lap while playing the game (Diablo III at 2880x1800, most settings max'd, Normal Act 3). I'd say the cooling system and fan noise is incredible.OK, I put my ear down to hear the fan, and it's much more of a white noise rather than the usual turbine-sounding fan noise. Very nice.

The standard models are the same as last year just with Ivy Bridge, USB 3.0 etc. The major changes to this Retina MPB are cutting out the spinning disks and the screen.tipoo - Monday, June 11, 2012 - link
There is a standard 15" and a retina one, the retina one ditches the optical drive, the rest still have it.
